Dream Baby Dream

With the onset of spring, a new season, and new vibrations…we started planting seeds and perhaps some of those seeds are now becoming dreams. A dream can give our lives a purpose, a trajectory, a path to walk and this vision begins with action- real deal concrete steps forward. Goethe says, “whatever you do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius and power and magic in it.” With action, our dreams can become both powerful and magical, rooted in the material and the ethereal.

I remember being 14 and taking my first Graham class, seated on the floor, legs in a butterfly position, spine rounded like a cat, we bounced to the beat. The bounces became contraction and release, the release became a spiral, a spiral became a fall to the earth only to resurrect and get back up. I Loved it- it was both powerful and magical. This first class became my dream to one day dance with the Martha Graham Dance Company. I knew this dream would take sweat, effort and determination and I was up for the challenge. Whatever your dream is – see it – believe it – go and get it. With 10+ years of physical labor, my dream of Graham happened and that was incredible. Then, that dream fizzled, it wasn’t what I wanted anymore, I changed and so did my dreams. The beauty of life is we need not have only one dream, we can have many, or one dream can take us in a whole new direction that we never knew existed.

Dream all your dreams and take all the necessary actions to make them happen- you can do it, you’ve done it before, you can do it again, and they might take you to completely new places to explore.

Dreams, we all have them, a little spark of magic that propels us forward and gives our life meaning.

In John C. Maxwell’s essay “What is your dream?” He asks us to put our dreams to the test by asking ourselves a few honest questions.

  • The Ownership Question: Is my dream really my dream?
  • The Clarity Question: Do I clearly see my dream?
  • The Reality Question: Am I depending on factors within my control to achieve my dream?
  • The Passion Question: Does my dream compel me to follow it?
  • The Pathway Question: Do I have a strategy to reach my dream?
  • The People Question: Have I included the people I need to realize my dream?
  • The Cost Question: Am I willing to pay the price for my dream?
  • The Tenacity Question: Am I moving closer to my dream?
  • The Fulfillment Question: Does working toward my dream bring satisfaction?
  • The Significance Question: Does my dream benefit others?

Ok, If your dream has past the test, now’s the time to go and get it.
